Your carpets are the workhorse of the home. All day long, they lie on the floor getting stomped on. If your carpets require deep cleaning, a professional needs to be called. Are you aware of the things you need to consider when choosing a carpet cleaner? Read on to find out.

Vacuum and shampoo your carpets frequently: Once every 5 - 7 days at least. The majority of debris and dirt that is visible on your carpets is still loose and can be easily removed with a quick run of the vacuum cleaner. The longer you leave it on the floor, the harder it will be to remove.

When you are cleaning, focus the majority of your attention on the spots where people are sitting like in front of the couch. These are typically the spots where you will find the most grime, bacteria and dirt when cleaning. Run over these areas at least three times when you are vacuuming.

Look to the Internet for some guidance if you are feeling overwhelmed by the number of different carpet cleaning companies in your area. Look up the names of a few companies that you are interested in, and see what kind of information you can find. Former customer reviews can be extremely helpful.

If you are hiring a carpet cleaning professional, do not forget to ask what they can do for your upholstery. Many carpet cleaning companies can also help you to get stains, dirt and grime out of your couch or love seat. Adding in this service when you are already getting your carpets clean costs a minimal amount of money, and it can make all the difference in the appearance of your home.

Make sure that the carpet cleaning company has insurance. You do not want to allow anyone into your home to do a job and they are not properly insured. You need to make sure that they have a way to replace anything that they damage while they are doing work in your home.

Ask a potential carpet cleaning company which products they use to clean carpets. Believe it or not, this is a big deal, as some of the chemicals used by these companies may harm children, the elderly, or pets. Go with another company if the company refuses to answer your question and provides you with the answer you did not want to hear.

Remember that cleaning your carpet with chemical products exposes your entire family to substances that are potentially harmful. You should always read the labels of the cleaning products you use and consider using an environment-friendly solution such as vinegar, salt or baking soda or rinsing your carpet thoroughly to get rid of chemicals.

Before the carpet cleaning company arrives, you may want to move furniture yourself. While some companies do this free, many do charge a fee if you ask them to do it for you. You will want to do whatever you can to save, as expensive as carpet cleaning can get.

Renting a steam cleaner is a great way to keep your carpet clean. Most major stores have steam cleaners that can be borrowed or rented. Plan on renting a steam cleaner two or three times a year to clean your carpet thoroughly. Alternatively, rent one if you are having a hard time getting rid of a stain.

When you are vacuuming your carpet, one quick pass over every area is not enough to pull up dirt. If your carpet is plush or shag carpeting, this is especially true. Slowly pass the vacuum over each area and make sure to pass over every area at least twice.
